Neuroimaging literature – the inside story

So, I’m new to neuroimaging literature in the methodology sense. I mean, I’ve been reading neuro papers for a while (given it was what my Masters was based on and features heavily in my PhD), but I would always read them and think

‘Hmmm I recognise the name of that brain region. Oooh look at the cool patterns of activation…I don’t know what the results mean, but the Discussion tells me the results support their hypothesis, good for them! *cites paper and rewords discussion in Dissertation*’

But this post by Neurocritic tells me that I need to understand a bit more about the methods before I go blindly singing each papers praise in my Thesis (good job I’ve got 2 1/2 years left then right?!)
